Hi Ian,
I have been running SBBS 1.17/1.17-2 under OS/2 for about 2 weeks now!
I found the change over "Extremely" simple, just a little time consuming.
To get it to work first time without any hassle make sure you have the
following available :-)
SIO050.* Ray Gwinns replacement Comm's drivers for OS/2
VFD053.* A Virtual Fossil Driver for OS/2
SIO will increase your through put drastically and also release precious
processor time for other applications. The VFD Virtual Fossil Driver is
AMAZING! It is a driver for OS/2 that will make a Fossil available in
as many DOS windows as you want all at one time! It is about 150% better
than X00149A under OS/2 and increased my Cps rate by about 500Cps!
With X00149A I was maxing about 1300Cps, with VFD I get 1700Cps no prob's
and have maxed at 2005Cps with Netmail packets from my hub!!
I am running OS/2 and the BBS on a 386DX 25Mhz, 8MB ram, 16450UART and have
no prob's!
I am able to program in Borland C++ WHILST someone is online at 14K4 without
a single CRC error, something I could never do under DESQview!
If you have any prob's with SBBS or FrontDoor under OS/2 pls shout, I'll
reply to you ASAP.
Best regards,
Mike....
Ps: One other thing, get a copy of OS2SP200.*, this is a neat util that allows
DESQview aware programs to time slice under OS/2, thus giving time back to the
system for other processes to use!!

I had used it for displaying the entire FILE_ID.DIZ file.

I have placed SuperBBS files (and am in the process of placing utilities
also) at gallifrey.ucs.uoknor.edu for availability by anonymous FTP.
These have also been placed at wuarchive.wustl.edu. I'll try to keep
the stuff current.
This should make it easier for some to get then by a long distance freq.

I've never seen anyone use a number as a file area. Have you tried to use

It appears that the users are able to flag files, but when they use the
download command it can't find the files. It sounds like you have a path
problem to your work directory. I believe that work directory is used to
store the file to direct the computer to the proper path. You need to spend
some time checking your paths in config.

Ok, this is whats happening.
FMail 0.94 supports short QWK names for SBBS. Make sure You have entered
in FSetup under Areamanager ->BBS the proper QWK short name for each area and
it will work nice. This is new in version 0.94 and You might have missed it
since the doc's wheren't so clear in this area :-)
BlueWave uses those areas in it's listings, so if there is nothing entered
there are no areas <g>.
Good luck !

For one line sysops who want things simple, the fileslist creator is good,
along with the rest of the SuperBBS internal utilities. Features over
FrontDoor are endless (comparing the 2.02 version, 2.10 has SOME of the
desired features) Janus Protocol, BiMail (BiModem) Protocol, Releases that
come out faster than FD :-), FULL multi-node support, Internal Multi-BBS
Support, Internal TICK/File Forwarding, PortalFix manager for
SessionLevels/PacketPWD/TickPWD/Multi Dial strings for parts of the day, Baud
Rate checking which saves $$$, BBS hours so you only call when the node is up,
For FileRequest Limiting options (Free/Pwd/Known/All/Flags/SecLvl), Daily
FileRequest Limits, Only get ONE file if there is the same file on CD as HD,
Automatic NodeDIFF applying/Packing up new nodelist, Max RINGING, Min. KB of
Mail before sending, More event configuration (Monthly/Yearly), Internal
Support for many of the SuperBBS options, all from one program, you also don't
need so many external utils, which is GREAT for people just starting, 16 AKAs,
and there is more, but this is not the PORTAL echo, so I will stop my
Off-Topic praise of a wonderful mailer with great support for SuperBBS,
something you don't see much of.

The *.SCC file is for security purposes only - a hack security.
It contains in a crippled way some dates about the registrated users.
If You run a registrated version of SBBS You need one copy to validate Your
registration - but only one. If that one works with Your registration You
never need another copy.
But because after You there are other users which legalize their copy of SBBS
the *.SCC file has to be updated - that's the reason why the names and the
length of that file differs from release to release.

I don't know what online editor you're using, but if it's QuickEd then you can
do what I do ...
Place your text file in the directory the board is currently working in (eg if
you're multi-line, put it where it will find it, for me this is sbbs\line2)
and rename it MSGTMP ... then you can just quote it in as if you were replying

IH>Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience running SBBS

I set it up once for a demo of my BBS (I didn't want to take my
BBS offline for the demo so I copied it across to my personal
machine running OS/2). It ran fine at all speeds up to 9600bps
(this was on a 386-33 without 16550) in both windowed and full
screen sessions. I used the BNU fossil driver inside the DOS box,
and the SIO/VSIO drivers for OS/2.
If you run SBBS under OS/2 then your biggest problem will be
having SBBS use 90% of the CPU time. A partial solution to this
problem is using an OS/2 mailer program which calls SBBS (you'll
need OS/2 version 2.1 beta and the file MAGIC.ZIP) so that SBBS
isn't wasting CPU time unless there's actually someone online.

PS I'll be able to help you more when you ask some more
specific questions.

Here's the future of SUtil. Starting with the next release it will be
commercial only, v0.44 was the last shareware release. v1.00 is expected to be
released in 2 - 3 weeks and will cost probably around $40 - $50 Aust, current
registration is $25 Aust. v1.00 will also include a KB Bank door and will
only be available to paying customers. Anyone registering SUtil prior to the
release of v1.00 will receive the full commercial release, after that time the
full price will be required. So if you have any plans to register, now is the
time. Those already registered will have regular updates on hold at this
system as they occur.
Here's the latest update details:
1.00 Added IMCOUNT and BACKUP functions. Added hot keys to menu
selections. Added menu config, color etc. LOSTCARRIER
will only post messages to users who exist in the user base.
Added last date to user SORT. Changes to TOLINE, see docs.
Fixed bug in DBCOUNT.

KW> Here's the init string on the modem: ~AT&FE1M0L1V1&C1&D2&S1
First of all add the X4 statement into your intit string, that is for 2400
baud and higher.
Secondly, in your batch files do you use Errorlevels from Front Door to call
your BBS baud rates? What I mean is in Front door (FDSETUP) there is an area
for errorlevel under MAILER.
In this, you should have something like this:
Baud Rate-> 300-101 <-Errorlevel
1200-102
2400-103
4800-104
9600-105
19200-106
38400-107
Then in your batch file, call FD like this
:START
cd\sbbs\fd
FD.EXE
If errorlevel 101 goto 300
if errorlevel 102 goto 1200
if errorlevel 103 goto 2400
Etc etc.. then down in the batch file you can set up your strings as:
:2400
cd\sbbs
bbs -b2400 -n1 -s9
if errorlevel 3 goto pack
if errorlevel 4 goto pack
if errorlevel 5 goto pack
goto START
:PACK
cd\sbbs\tosser
imail scan
cd..
goto START
Hope this helps,
-Tom

Well, I don't know what version your using, but I am having no problems with

but the pointers are not updated. And there is nothing about DV for my users

That's not neccesarily true. I know too many sysops running Stacker 3.0 with
no problems - running SBBS as well.... Now, using more than one (Stacker and
DOS 6's disk compressor) will cause serious problems. Also using a writable

Today, I installed the type 60, 61 and 62 in my system, and found out, it
is a very unsafe feature, becuase you can't tell superbbs when to stop
decompressing files, if space on harddisk is low.
I did the following:
I decompressed und copied as many files, until I filled up my 80 mb
inbound partition to 0 bytes free.
Then, I executed the chat-program (or any other door).
Because Superbbs can't swap to this disk, because it is full, I get the
following:
11-Apr-93 12:57 Shelled to dos
11-Apr-93 12:57 Cmd line: *c /c 1chat.bat *n *p *b *s
11-Apr-93 12:57 Fatal error, user offline
After this, Superbbs will not delete the contents of the temp-directories
as listed in the setup program (logical, after an error).
This could bring you in deep trouble, if you have your mailer on the same
partition, because Frontdoor e.g. needs atleast 32k free diskspace to run
;-))))
To prevent any futher mess, I have added the following statement in my
batch-file which is executed after leaving superbbs:
for %%d in (\bbs\#%task%\tmp\*.* \bbs\#%task%\work\*.*) do del %%d
2) Using BiModem as xfer-protocol.
It works fine here, only 2 things are quite buggy.
If I upload files (and download files at the same time) with Bimodem,
using the download command (type 32), BiModem will put the description
of the uploaded file into the current (template) directory, instead to
the upload directory defined in the bimodem setup.
If I want to select a default protocol with the menutype 97
Bimodem will not be listed in the protocol-list. But I can still set it up as
default protocol, by pressing B

Hello Rob!

RH> How do you get MKQWK to work?
Menu type 7 with Data line:
S2R.EXE FLMU *c /c MKQ.BAT *S *E *MQ (*MQ not working yet according to AKI,
supposed to tell log that QWK was used)
Contents of MKQ.BAT:
@echo off
c:\sbbs\fakera\MKQWK
cd \sbbs
Other things:
1. Put all MKQWK files in C:\SBBS\FAKERA
2. Set environment variable:
SET RA=C:\RA
Hope that helps..

MB> Ok.. now how do I convert it to a QBBS stlye exitinfo after
MB>RATS messes with it.
Depends on what conversion program you are using. . . If you use the program
that comes with SBBS (S2R.EXE), you can read up about it in the documentation.
If you use another program like Doormaster or Qkdoor, you will need to convert
to an RA type dropfile, run your program, and then convert it back to a QBBS
type dropfile. Some doors require the config.ra and will require you use the
program that comes with sbbs, but if the program only reads exitinfo.bbs and
dorinfo?.def, you *should* be able to use this example:
@ECHO OFF
QKDOOR C:\SBBS\QBBS C:\DOORS\RATS\RA
CD \DOORS\RATS
PROGRAM.EXE
QKDOOR C:\DOORS\RATS\RA C:\SBBS\QBBS
CD \SBBS
Make sure you convert it or copy it back into your sbbs directory or when the
bbs tries to read it back in it won't have any of the new information.

Subj : Modem inits
Would you take a moment and see if we can imporve a good text file on modem
inits that was sent to me by David Conger. If you find any errors, better
settings for any modem, or modems not covered, please let me know. I have one
that I need, if someone would help me. I need the settings for a PPI 14.4
HST.
If you run a Mailer and your setting needs more change than the S0=1 for BBS
ONLY application, please post both modem init setting for a Mailer and a BBS.
If your modem has switches that need to be set, please tell me about the
switch settings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MODEM SETTINGS
My thanks to David Conger at 1:190/903 for sending me this file.
I hope it helps SuperBBS users to ease the pain of modem installation
just a bit. If you know of any modems that are not listed here and
would be kind enough to help us add it, please leave me feedback.
MODEM/MAILER SYSTEMS
Some of these setting may be for a mailer system, in which case you
will have to use the S0=1 for a standalone bbs init string. You may
have to play with some of these setting a bit to get them to work, since
there are no guarantees that your system setup is exactually like the
people who volunteered these settings. These setting are only hoped to
get you some where near to what works.
16550 UART - A MUST!
If using an external modem, pull the I/O card out that the modem cable
connects to and look for either a 8250 or 16450 Uart (40 pin I.C.)
chip on the board. This chip needs to be replace with a 16550AN or AFN
Uart chip. This chip is a buffered chip and prevents you from loosing
data during HST transfers and in Mulititasking enviroments. If the
above chips are not the kind to be unplugged, then you will have to buy
a new Multi I/O card with a 16550A Uart on it.
If your I/O card does have the older chip(s), you can reduce transfer
errors by locking your baud rate to 19,200.
Both Cards and 16550AN chips can be purchased from JDR Microdevices at
1-800-538-5000 voice, or 1-800-538-5005 Fax, approximate price is $14.
A copy of this file may be file requested or downloaded as INITS.ARJ
